Room 101

What would you put into Room 101?

One pet hate per post.

Post as many pet hates as you want until you experience true catharsis!

If you are not familiar with the Room 101 concept, here is a little bit of background from the relevant article on Wikipedia.

Room 101 is a BBC comedy television series based on the radio series of the same name, in which celebrities are invited to discuss their pet hates and persuade the host to consign those hates to oblivion in Room 101, a location whose name was inspired by the torture room in George Orwell's 1949 novel Nineteen Eighty-Four which reputedly contained "the worst thing in the world". Orwell himself named it after a meeting room in Broadcasting House where he would sit through tedious meetings.

  • Food packaging. It infuriates me how it’s supposed to be resealable, easy to open, less mess, less waste. What a load of crap. It’s making me furious even thinking about why the resealable sticker on a packet of rice never sticks and ends up on the floor.

  • I agree. I usually seal bags bags with clips, but last year I bought a bag of rice that had a resealable sticker on the bag and I decided to use it. Big mistake because it didn’t remain sealed. The bag tipped over spilling rice on the cupboard shelf.

My mother first put me on to Lakeland Clippits donkeys decades ago and I have been using them ever since because they are extremely effective. The largest size seals the rice bag if you fold the edges down. There are also these newer clamp type things which work very well.

I normally cut the entire top off resealable bags containing food and select an appropriate closure.

These can be purchased online or in store from Lakeland, or from Amazon. There are brands other than Lakeland’s but I have never tried them.
