Room 101

What would you put into Room 101?

One pet hate per post.

Post as many pet hates as you want until you experience true catharsis!

If you are not familiar with the Room 101 concept, here is a little bit of background from the relevant article on Wikipedia.

Room 101 is a BBC comedy television series based on the radio series of the same name, in which celebrities are invited to discuss their pet hates and persuade the host to consign those hates to oblivion in Room 101, a location whose name was inspired by the torture room in George Orwell's 1949 novel Nineteen Eighty-Four which reputedly contained "the worst thing in the world". Orwell himself named it after a meeting room in Broadcasting House where he would sit through tedious meetings.

Parents
  • Owners of dogs who jump up on me with their dirty paws.

I am a dog lover, but I do not like it when I go for a walk and other people’s dogs jump up on me, covering me with mucky paw prints.

I have a right to enjoy a walk without having  interference from people or their dogs. I have lost count of the number of times people say, “he’s only being friendly”. Friendliness or not, I don’t want to be covered in muck, yet people look at me as if I have two heads!

I have also heard some dog owners saying “people shouldn’t come out dressed in good clothes along this path” (Because it’s a country trail). If people want to walk on a public path dressed in white silk, that is up to them—it is not for others to decide what they should wear.

Now when I choose to allow my dogs to jump up on me, that is a different matter, and a behaviour that I sometimes permit, but I have always trained my dogs not to jump on other people. I wish irresponsible dog owners would do the same.

  • I certainly agree with this. What would people think if strange humans came up and touched them?
