Looking for friends

I’m 48 and have recently been diagnosed with autism and autistic burnout. I’m feeling isolated and lonely, I’d like to make friends, especially as I have had to take most of the year off sick due to the burnout. Would like to make friends whether that’s online or if anyone lives in my neck of the woods it would be nice to have people to meet up with.

  • Hello Rach.Mo,

I am also new to this community and thank goodness I have found them.!!

I am 56, got my diagnosis two months ago, am dealing with a husband who amongst many other issues has just been diagnosed with Parkinson's , and the death of both my parents over the past two years. So it won't surprise any of the other community members that I am struggling to cope.

Isn't the burnout so hard to manage? Do you struggle with any social engagement and the aftermath? I do, and find that I am totally exhausted for two or three days afterwards.

I also find drawing so therapeutic and it forces my mind to concentrate on one thing, and taking photos helps me .

Anyway it's good knowing others who are understanding isn't it?

    Take care

  • Hi and welcome!!

Reading your post touched me — thank you for sharing it with us.

My brother has Parkinson's so I can relate a little.

    You're not alone.

    Sending you strength.
