Looking for friends

I’m 48 and have recently been diagnosed with autism and autistic burnout. I’m feeling isolated and lonely, I’d like to make friends, especially as I have had to take most of the year off sick due to the burnout. Would like to make friends whether that’s online or if anyone lives in my neck of the woods it would be nice to have people to meet up with.

  • Dear Rach.Mo,

Welcome to the community, I hope you enjoy your time on the online community and find it a friendly environment. You have already had some great responses!

The NAS have a Autism Services Directory , it may be helpful to take a look at some of the services provided in your area. They have an option to take a look at extra curricular and leisure activities; there may be some local activities or groups that allow you to meet people and hopefully make some good friends.

It may also be worth taking a look at our advice and guidance on autistic burnout: Autistic fatigue and burnout you may know a lot about this already but it also links to some resources and podcasts that might be worth taking a look at.

    Best wishes,
