this joke is one of the first I remember - I must have been about 7 or 8. It was told to me by my Uncle Ray. I think jokes like this really helped me question in my mind what people are saying and what I am experiencing from an early age - I'm not sure it made me laugh but it certainly made me think :-)
ideally the lead up timing to it is if hamsters or spring bulbs come up in conversation - although it just came to mind for me when talking with my wife about childhood intelligence in relationship to resistance to indoctrination
" some friends of mine had a hamster once
sadly they don't live very long but when it died they where told that cooking it in sugar would turn it into something lovely to have on toast
they did so but it tasted so awful they threw it our of the kitchen window
next year there was a lovely display of spring bulb flowers where it had fell....
Haven't you ever heard of tulips from hamster jam?"
