So back story is school put in referral for NHS diagnosis. Obviously there was a long wait as there is with everything. We eventually got passed to a private company to cut time etc. I was under the impression that this would be a good thing. Boy was I wrong.
So the professionals opinion is we should treat my son like he's autistic but the professional would not diagnose him as autistic. Her reason he didn't go non-verbal in the assessment, quote she said that was a required criteria. Well I called them out on that as I know it's not a requirement on an ados assessment which he had. She back tracked and said he had no communication problems yet in his report it a stated that he uses learned language too far advance for himself almost like they are learnt and rehearsed phrases. The report also said at times my son spoke at an immature rate for someone of his age. There was many inconsistencies throughout the whole report. Things like school didn't see any issues, then listed all of schools issues. I do know what the school wrote as well.
As I said I challenged this and got no where. School said they'd do a new referral. That was December 2024. Here we are in September 2025, they didn't do one, along with various other things so I've pulled him out of that school and sent him to a different one.
Next I put in a form I found online to the GP. One of those self assessment things with a score and asked them to see him. Months go by don't hear anything, no appointment from GP, no electronic verification or acknowledgement of form. I chase it up. GP says that's not how it works. Form hasn't even been added to sons file!
Cue right to choose, found a company, the won't see him as he's already been assessed.
So the question is where do I go from here? How do I get someone to listen? How do I get another referral? How do I get a second opinion?
