What music are you listening to?

Sibelius, Symphony No. 7. A 2022 recording on Ondine by Nicholas Collon and the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. 

I am listening to most music on CDs these days, for a number of reasons. Although I moved from vinyl to cd to downloads to streaming Im now getting huge satisfaction for having turned my back on digital sources and loving the physicality of a cd again and the intentionality it requires. Earlier this evening I sat out at dusk listening to a new Ravel cd, also on Ondine, which was again quite magical. As important as any of these reasons is the fact that by purchasing physical media from an independent specialist online shop I know that I am supporting the artists and their infrastructure way more than by the tiny tiny amount they receive from streaming.

I was fortunate to go to secondary school in the early  70s where music, and arts/culture in general, were as highly esteemed as the exam cram subjects. By the time I left my music appreciation was such that I could identify almost all classical composers from a single bar, sometimes even a single chord. My career took me deep into statistics and the written language and negotiation and management, but I never lost my love of western art music, and my high regard for the performers and composers of this music
