Giving you a rest

I'm going to be travelling for 3-4 weeks so you can all have a rest from my regulsar input, discussions and musings.

Planning the trip that spans 6 countries and 4 continents was a real challenge, especially with one company that took payment for a long haul flight and refused to communicate with me afterwards (no ticket or anything) - i had to get the credit card company to cancel the transaction and do it all again at greater cost.

i'll probably bore you with the aspects of this what were impacted by my autism at a future date and how i dealt with them in case it helps anyone else.

I'll be about on Monday for most of the day but packing and planning are getting the anxiety responses popping up so I' m probably not going to be online much.

My biggest worry is gettiing my connection in the USA with my social media having criticised the tangerine traitor on a number of occasions. They demand all your social medial details to even be in the airport now. i've scrubbed these apps off my phone in prepartion for travel in case they do get nosey.

Japan, China and Scotland here I come... see you on the other side.

  • Hope they don’t confiscate your phone. I believe it is possible to get your online data, such as your posts on this forum, even if you have scrubbed it. If I was doing your journey I would leave my phone at home and take a cheap phone on my travels.

    Have a safe journey.

  • And I just got an email that there is a delay of 12 hours meaning I now have an extra 14 hour overnight delay in Dallas, an internal USA flight with an improbably 1 hour 20 min connecting window (not much chance of my luggage making it) and a one day delay to arrival, meaning my internal flight to Sapporo in Japan will be missed.

    Grrr.

Now I need to try to cancel the flight and get another one tonight that won't cost me an arm, a leg and a kidney.

  • Sounds like a busy time but I bet it will be amazing visiting all those places. I'm glad you got the airline trouble sorted as well.

If you're visiting Scotland and have time you should visit the Orkney Islands! They have stunning scenery and a lot of history, and the walks are breathtaking (Can suck a bit if the weather isn't nice though).

  • Out of Japan, China, and Scotland, which stop are you most excited about?

Japan has to be top of my favourite destinations of anywhere I have ever been. This will be the 6th trip there now.

It is very clean, incredibly safe and well organised and the people will very often go out of their way to help if you look lost or are having problems, even when they don't speak your language.

It has its dark side such as sexism, racism, xenophobia and sexual assaults but these are a bit exaggerated by the media or do not impact you much as a tourist. Being an outisider in their culture means you need to expect to be excluded from some of their social activities too.

I only have layovers in the USA and China thankfully - I'm no fan of the USA (been 7 times now, always for work) and family who have been to China have not given positive feedback on it.

Engand and Scotland are just for family. My very elderly mother is in failing health and I try to visit every 6 months for a week or two to spend time with her and do some of the things around the house that she can no longer do.

I'll stil get a chance to catch up with some childhood friends from my old hometown there too.

This early retirement business has a lot going for it.

I need to go finish packing and print all my tickets before the anxiety starts to rise...

  • Wow that sounds amazing I hope you enjoy.
