The sky's gone a funny colour and there's water falling!

I'd almost forgotten how restful a grey sky is to my eyes, the garden's perking up a bit and my water butt is almost refilled.

I stayed in and made High Dumpsey Dearie Jam and planned some new dishes for autumn, mostly food from the Levant, which I love so much.

Now it's cooled down and I'm sleeping a bit better, my brain has started to work again and I'm not walking around in a constant fog.

What have you been up to this soggy saturday?

  • I often forget to water the green house when it's wet out, of course it dosen't rain in the green house.

It's really windy here and raining quite hard too, should have a lovely rainbow as the sun's still shining through the clouds.

  • A day late. It's great to see the rain and a relief to have no more watering to do for a while. The water butts have overflowed.

We did have some breaks, so I enjoyed a short walk in the cool and walking up the garden in a short period of sun. It is also good to lose the dry dusty atmosphere. When it rained I looked through the bargain seeds I bought last year to make plans in my book for next year.

The cooler nights are definitely welcome too and less noise from neighbours.

  • The Levant is another name for the countries in the near east bordering the med. In this case I've got Yottam Ottalengi and Sami Tamimam's book, Jeruslaem. Jerusalem being such a melting pot it has food from all over the regions, Israeli, Palestinian, Syrian, Lebanese and a few others, its a fragrant cuisine full of mild spices and herbs, lots of fresh fruit, veg, pulses, yogurt and meat and fish, Its not just hummus and felafel in pitta bread.

  • Was busy. Went to a Coffee Morning, lit a fire, went to Mass then visited my, bedridden, friend.

  • Literally played nothing but Mario kart world! I am just struggling with renovations and burnout and right now kart is the only thing keeping me sane. I did however enjoy the heavy rain today. I was tempted to go for a walk but I’m just so drained lately and my sleep pattern has one weird.

  • You have had a productive day.

I met a friend for breakfast outside at a nearby spot. I wasn’t expecting it to feel quite so cold, so we both had our second cup of coffee inside. The rain started around 12:00, so we went to an art exhibition at a local church. There were some very good paintings there, including some by well known and acclaimed local artists, at a more reasonable price than at traditional art galleries (lower selling commissions). The rain kept the crowds away, so it was a very enjoyable way to spend ‘soggy Saturday’.

  • Some housework, played my game a bit, did a bit of reading. Enjoyed seeing the rain on the window and the tree outside being blown about in the wind. Hopefully "crazy season" is nearly over and people will start calming down this coming week as schools reopen.

What is food from the Levant, by the way?
