Hi I have just been diagnosed with asd my age is 59 female. Is there anybody who has been diagnosed late too. Suri.
Im 52, diagnosed with ASD and ADHD this year, this only came about because 6 years ago i met my late diagnosed Aspie boyfriend, in an effort to understand him i read as much literature as possible, things started to click with me, unfortunately though our mutual condition didnt aid our bonding or help me understand him more, even though we shared interests together, and he became my person of interest like all my boyfriends do, i wasnt in his special interests list, and ive not been well at all this last two years, and inspite of lockdowns taking away our abilities to go on adventures, therefore out of our control, he also sees my health issues, even though they are temporary, - as just being another spanner in the works, and today we have split up, im on my own again and broken hearted again, but this will be the very last time, i cant put myself through any more heartache :(
Hi Stopthenoise, please refer back to your latest posts on local authorities for my response. As for costs, I wouldn't say any of those things cost practically nothing by any means at all. It's quite costly to run a helpline, a forum and produce leaflets/an informative website, especially as we get no government funding for it. We also run services such a schools and adult residental homes. We also have befriending and mentoring schemes, as well as employment training. You can find our impact report here www.autism.org.uk/.../documents-and-reports.aspx
Hello Stopthenoise,
I am sorry you feel this way. Would you like to tell us something more specific about the nature of help you need.
Best,
Kalliopi Mod
What a relief, now you will think like I did, that finally someone is going to help, however unless you live in one of the councils that do help you will just be brushed under that carpet due to costs, NAS will do nothing tangible to help people other than provide information, theres no legal help, no accomodation, no mediators, etc... and yet their nice little charity says they are helping people with autism. Everything they do to help in intangible .. EG is costs practically nothing, such as a forum and a phone like and online document, so where does the 100 million pound go ?
Hello!
I've also just had a diagnosis. I'm 42, and male. The DISCO interviews were last year, and I finally got a summary of the assessment earlier this week. It tells me I have an ASD, and that it's Asperger's Syndrome.
NAS do nothing to help adults with autism apart from give information, and that costs 100 million a year does it ?

Hello Suri, I was diagnosed last year, I'm 57. It has caused problems with my relationship as my partner has health problems and can't cope with me anymore so we are splitting up.
