Sorry long post!
New on today - maybe we should have joined years ago.
Our son who is 14 has a diagnosis of ASD. He is main stream school where he is doing ok although we have started getting a fair bit of school refusal over the last few months. The school are very supportive but he will NOT accept any of their help.
We have to deal with violent and toxic behaviour at home on a regular basis. Social services and the police have been involved. Currently we are awaiting for the LA disability team to help but waiting list is bonkers. We have a private psychiatrist booked for later this month.
Our biggest issue is screen time. The last few weeks we have been unable to get him to bed before 2am and then usually with a lot of anger and shouting. He’s also sleeping on our bedroom floor on futon which he has been doing since he broke his leg 2 months ago - that’s fixed now but he won’t go back to his own room.
Turning off the internet results in a complete breakdown which wakes our other three children aged 15, 12 and 10 causing mayhem which takes ages to settle, which is the main reason we have not tackled it. But the time is now completely out of control and his and our health are suffering.
We have Melatonin gummies but he usually refuses those.
Has anyone dealt with this successfully??
