The Aftermath of 'Sciencetology'

It didn't just appear, by magic, back in 2020. It began with Daytime TV becoming saturated with GP Panelists. Then the media exploitation of people's concern over their kids' lifestyle choices. Not to forget, the latest Calabraty tittle-tattle.

The Gogglebox replaced Christianity as our Religion. Aided and abetted with DVD Boxsets, then online Streaming. Also Mums becoming interested in the shows their Tiddlers watched.

Hypochondria is Big Business.

  • Hi Desmond, this is an intriguing post and I've been trying to work out what you are saying.

Your heading is "sciencetology" which I quickly worked out is not the same as scientology. "ology" means a subject of study or a branch of knowledge, for example theology is the study of the nature of God and religious belief. So I think you are saying that science has taken over from religion in telling people how to live and what to think?

You also say hypochondria is big business. I think I get where you are coming from with this, as drugs companies make many millions from their products. But many of those products, such as drugs for diabetes or high blood pressure, save lives. Also when people have no immediate threats such as war, famine, drought, or the threat of homelessness or slavery, it's easy for them to get worried about perceived threats, and being healthy is important for living a happy life.

With reference to the replacement of religion, I see no reason why a person cannot enjoy movies and watch TV with their children and still follow a religion. However I do agree that reality shows and "celebrity tittle-tattle" seem to have a lot of influence over some people. I'm not religious but I don't watch any day time TV or reality shows, or read any newspapers. I just try to live the best life I can.
