Orca's bearing food

I've just seen a news report about orca's coming up to humans with gifts of food, fish, birds etc and seeming to be waiting to see what we will do. 

I can understand why someone would be wary of accepting a lunch invitation from an orca, but what are they trying to communicate to us? Are they wanting to be friends, if we took food from them, should we offer some in return?

  • No human has ever been killed by an orca in the wild. Captive ones have killed people but well, I can kind of understand why that might be! They can weigh 6000kg and kill great white sharks, they are the awesome predators they could easily kill us but they don't, many people have swam with them. I honestly believe they are being friendly! Sometimes I feel a connection with animals, I'm sure my dog understands so much and orcas are smarter than dogs.

    I remember on ones they had at Windsor Safari park, they were huge and I think of them caught and help onto a staff memeber for about 3 days, but as you say in captivity it's going to be different, maybe they get mental health problems? I think it would be great is they were trying to make friends, what a magical think it would be to be able to communicate with them?
