Glastonbury Raye

Did anyone watch Raye's set at Glastonbury last night? She was brilliant, so many of her songs resonnalted with me as both a woman and an autistic woman, she sang of the masks we wear to get through the day, the masks we wear to not show hurt, to pretend that we're not being abused and controlled. Not only that she has a totally amazing voice, with a massive range. If you didn't see it watch it on i-player

We watched and enjoyed the EZRA collective too, so good to see people taking genuine joy in the talents of young people and working with youth groups, bringing them onstage, without a hint of patronism, but just because they're brilliant.

  • I went to Glastonbury in 1979, it was only 2 fields then, but it was still great, I don't think I could do it now though, to busy, to many people and to many clowns and other people that freak me out wandering about.

I saw the end of Pulp, just before the EZRA collective came on. Raye isn't my normal sort of music either, but I think when someone's so multitalented like she is it just shines out.

  • I also enjoyed watching - via TV - Raye's Glastonbury set this week.

In October 2024 - I also enjoyed via TV - Raye's performances at the Royal Albert Hall "RAYE takes to the stage of London's iconic Royal Albert Hall to perform songs from her Mercury Prize-nominated album My 21st Century Blues.".  This performance (1 hour, 20 minutes) is available via iPlayer for another 6 months:

It was also fun to see - via YouTube - Raye's preparation, behind the scenes, for "Worth It" (with the Heritage Orchestra and featuring the Flames Collective) - ready for Royal Albert Hall performance:

I particularly liked - via YouTube - the "Worth It" version which Raye performed April 2024 at London Hilton on Park Lane:

"RAYE performs Worth It. Live at London Hilton on Park Lane. Listen to RAYE's debut album 'My 21st Century Blues':"

    - just a different energy to that performance.

  • Raye was superb.  Not my usual type of music but she's more talented than most of the headliners for sure - even more so as she actually sang rather than mimed.  Plus she had an incredible band + backing singers too.

Chic also very good today and I've enjoyed Gary Numan / Pulp yesterday.  The Prodigy OMG !!!

Not sure I'd last 5 mins in a festival - would love to be there in one way
