How are we coping with the heatwave?

Unusually for me I'm doing alright, we do have a little breeze here which is helping and it's "only" 27.C, it should start getting cooler for us tomorrow and sunday, which will be very welcome. Fearn and I went to the beach this morning and had a paddle, neither of us swim, Fearn's a bit nervous about swimming as she's not really built for it, her paws are to narrow  and I swim like a brick!

  • I hate this weather and I will be glad to see the back of it. The problem is that UK homes are built to retain heat, so they end up feeling like a furnace during hot weather. Air con also isn't widely available like it is in other countries. There is very little respite from the heat in this country.

  • We need to change the way we build houses, good insulation should keep you cool in summer as well as warm in winter, I think so much of our housing stock is in such poor shape that it neither keeps people warm in winter or cool in summer. I'm not sure that air con is the answer, it's very costly to run, I think things like shade curtains to reflect the heat back out are good, one of the problems is we so rarely get extremes of temperature or historically we haven't, thats why we are so badly affected by anything out of the normal range.

  • I don't really like taking the Buses and Trains in London during the hot weather because they have poor ventilation. Also, it is like being in an oven.
