Hi. Bit of an odd one this, but I'm relatively hopeful that someone on here might have knowledge enough to solve the mystery... (thanks in advance if so!)
OK, so some time between leaving my house yesterday and returning later that evening, the following has appeared outside my back window.
My fiancee and I are worried that it might be rat poison, after she raised that possibility out of concern for a cute wee fieldmouse we'd seen a couple of times in the garden recently. Obviously that scenario would mean that a neighbour had, without asking permission, come onto my property, (perhaps having overheard us talk about the wee mouse, getting a humane trap if we see it again etc.) and done something rather drastic.
But I hope instead that this is a case of anxious thinking having run away with itself a bit and that this might just be some sort of, er, guano/bird's dirt or something. There are little pellet things that might be large seeds? (or, if poison, man-made pellets?) And, to my eyes, there's a slight spatter pattern. The guttering wouldn't be far out of alignment with the 'drop zone' if it is bird droppings.... but I don't want to lead the witness too much here just because I'm hoping for a preferred answer. There was (unusually) a kestrel on the garden fence for a time yesterday evening, but I've looked up what they might leave behind and its seemingly a lot different from this. The colouring contrast is odd too.
I know that a good few on here have special interests around nature, wildlife and so on. So... keeping my fingers crossed for an 'I'm almost certain that's...' from someone (or even an 'I think...') , so as to have a better understanding of what scenario we have here. Big thanks if you can help!
