Cookie Preferences

I get fed up when I go to a new website and spend ages turning off all the cookies and then finding that the site I'm looking at doesn't have what I want.

I wish all site would have a reject all option right at the start, how do others cope with the nonsense?

  • We have so few shops now, our high streets look post apocalyptic, voarded up and abandoned building with rubbish blowing past.

Sorry you have similar problems Homebird, but it makes me feel a little better knowing I'm not alone.

  • I agree, with news they have a habit of putting an appealing headline which turns out to be a non event so try to avoid even looking.

As for shopping, if something is in a shop can be much easier. I wasted yesterday afternoon trying to get some things online I couldn't get locally and ended up abandoning it for another day as it got stuck.

As for the edible sort, they take very little time at all, my choice, fruit and spice.

  • It the shear amount of time it takes to go through them all and turn them off, before I'm allowed onsite to find that that there's noting on there I want, or it's the wrong sort of site, and then I have to do all over again multiple times, before finding maybe one relevant thing. 10 minutes searching and turning off cookies for 1 minute of stuff I actually want dosen't seem like a rewarding use of my time, especially if I just want a quick look for something I'm curious about.

If it's biscuits, then its Lidl dark chocolate digestives.

  • I agree with your frustration. The worst are the ones who offer to let you select options, so I think I can choose only essential, then you have to accept marketing or can't look. I agree they should be clear at the start.

  • how do others cope with the nonsense?

It is a bit like the requirement to have insurance / MoT / driving license / road tax to be able to drive a car in the UK - this is just part of what is required by most sites to operate now.

There are a number of technical reasons why some sites use them but by and large they are there to benefit the sites by gathering info on you and they make it so you need to accept some level of cookies before you can access the content they offer - a trade off I guess.

The days of the "free" internet are mostly gone now and most want something from you in order to let you use them so it just means a few seconds to make the settings to give them the minimal level of cookies, and to visit it in a private browser session if you don't plan to return there.

  • I noticed some sites won't show you any content, or give you a default page, if you select no cookies.

Sometimes if I'm not that interested and it is not easy to select essential only then I just find another site.

I find the whole cookie thing annoying.

  • I thought when I saw the post you were talking about biscuits, I like a jammy dodger or a custard cream
