Your theme song?

Just thinking the other day about a song or a piece of music that you really relate to or seems capture you as a person?

Mine is Disney's Hercules the main song called I will go the distance, I like the tune and its my favourite Disney film, but its the lyrics....first verse copied below (hopefully I will not invoke the wrath of the forum gods)....

"I have often dreamed
Of a far of place
Where a great, warm, welcome
Will be waiting for me
Where the crowds will cheer
When they see my face
And a voice keeps saying
This is where I'm meant to be
I will find my way
I can go the distance
I'll be there someday
If I can be strong
I know every mile
Will be worth my while
I would go most anywhere
To feel like I belong......"

Would be very interested to hear your thoughts around this subject
  • Boulevard of Broken Dreams by Green Day

“My shadow’s the only one who walks beside me…”

  • I love that song and movie.

Mine is What was I made for by Billie Eilish. It was my go to song when I was in the middle of waiting for my assessment, a time where I felt completely lost and didn't know who I was or what I was really here for. My diagnosis has at least settled some of these feelings. I now feel like I belong and it's a lovely feeling.

"I used to float, now I just fall down
I used to know but I'm not sure now
    What I was made for
    What was I made for?
Takin' a drive, I was an ideal
Looked so alive, turns out I'm not real
    Just something you paid for
    What was I made for?

    'Cause I, I
I don't know how to feel
    But I wanna try
I don't know how to feel
    But someday, I might
    Someday, I might
When did it end? All the enjoyment
I'm sad again, don't tell my boyfriend
It's not what he's made for
    What was I made for?

    'Cause I, 'cause I
I don't know how to feel
    But I wanna try
I don't know how to feel
    But someday I might
    Someday I might
Think I forgot how to be happy
Something I'm not, but something I can be
    Something I wait for
    Something I'm made for
    Something I'm made for"

  • For me I don’t have a specific song right now that comes to mind but maybe something by Linkin Park with Chester, but I will have to have a think about that one.

  • I love that song Sparkling heart

    1983.

    It became a gay anthem.

  • This describes how I feel at the moment.

Gloria Gaynor.   I am what I am.

    I am what I am
    I don't want praise
    I don't want pity
    I bang my own drum
    Some think it's noise
    I think it's pretty
And so what if I love each sparkle and each bangle?
Why not try to see things from a different angle?
Your life is a shame 'til you can shout out
    I am what I am
I am what I am and what I am needs no excuses
I deal my own deck, sometimes the ace, sometimes the deuces
It's one life and there's no return and no deposit
One life so it's time to open up your closet
Life's not worth a damn 'til you can shout out
    I am what I am
    I am what I am
I am what I am and what I am needs no excuses
I deal my own deck, sometimes the ace, sometimes the deuces
It's one life and there's no return and no deposit
One life so it's time to open up your closet
Life's not worth a damn 'til you can shout out
    I am what I am
    I am, I am good
    I am, I am strong
    I am, I am somebody
    I am, I do belong
  • "Story of a Lonely Guy" by Blink 182. Maybe a bit too obvious? Joy

  • Q: how do you stand standing alone?

A: It's better than lying in company.

  • Chorus to 'Fools Gold' by The Stone Roses:

    [about everyone I've ever known]

I'm standing alone, I'm watching you all

    I'm seeing you sinking

I'm standing alone, you're weighing the gold

    I'm watching you sinking

    Fools Gold.

  • I don’t know if this counts as a song but my theme would defo be Mario karts grumble volcano theme as well I can erupt like a volcano when I’m having an autistic meltdown/breakdown. I don’t really listen to proper music these days

  • Iris by Goo Goo Dolls

And I'd give up forever to touch you
'Cause I know that you feel me somehow
You're the closest to Heaven that I'll ever be
And I don't wanna go home right now
And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
And sooner or later, it's over
I just don't wanna miss you tonight
And I don't want the world to see me
    'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming
Or the moment of truth in your lies
When everything feels like the movies
Yeah, you bleed just to know you're alive
And I don't want the world to see me
    'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
And I don't want the world to see me
    'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
And I don't want the world to see me
    'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
  • I've always loved "Nowhere Man" By The Beatles

    He's a real nowhere man
    Sitting in his nowhere land
Making all his nowhere plans for nobody
Doesn't have a point of view
Knows not where he's going to
Isn't he a bit like you and me?
    Nowhere man, please listen
You don't know what you're missing
    Nowhere man
The world is at your command
He's as blind as he can be
Just sees what he wants to see
Nowhere man, can you see me at all?
    Nowhere man, don't worry
    Take your time, don't hurry
    Leave it all
'Til somebody else lends you a hand
Doesn't have a point of view
Knows not where he's going to
Isn't he a bit like you and me?
    Nowhere man, please listen
You don't know what you're missing
    Nowhere man
The world is at your command
    He's a real nowhere man
    Sitting in his nowhere land
Making all his nowhere plans for nobody
Making all his nowhere plans for nobody
Making all his nowhere plans for nobody
  • I think it sometimes depends on my mood. I'm feeling a bit silly this morning, so I'm going to choose "I'm the Urban Spaceman" by the Bonzo-Dog-Doodah Band:

    I'm the Urban Spaceman, baby
    I've got speed
    I've got everything I need
    I'm the Urban Spaceman, baby
    I can fly
    I'm a supersonic guy

    I don't need pleasure
    I don't feel pain
If you were to knock me down
    I'd just get up again
    I'm the Urban Spaceman, baby
    I'm making out
    I'm all about

I wake up every morning with a smile upon my face
My natural exuberance spills out all over the place

    I'm the Urban Spaceman
    I'm intelligent and clean
    Know what I mean?
    I'm the Urban Spaceman
As a lover, second to none
    It's a lot of fun

I never let my friends down
    I've never made a boob
I'm a glossy magazine, an advert in the tube
I'm the Urban Spaceman, baby, here comes the twist
    I don't exist

  • I recently saw the latest Bridget Jones film, in one part ‘Modern Love’ blasts out, it’s brilliant.

  • I’ve found this community is one place where I don’t get judged, just try and give answer.. Slight smile

  • Any answer I give will sound stupid.

  • I think the other one I'd have to go for is, You Got The Love, I prefer the Florence and the Machine version, because so many times in my like The Goddess is the only one who has kept me going.

  • An excerpt:

She could spit in the eyes of fools
As they ask her to focus on
    Sailors
    Fighting in the dance hall.
    Oh man!
    Look at those cavemen go.
    It's the freakiest show.
Take a look at the lawman
    Beating up the wrong guy.
    Oh man!
    Wonder if he'll ever know
He's in the best selling show.
    Is there Life On Mars?
  • I think Life on Mars by Bowie for me.

The lyrics resonated for me when I first heard it as a teenager and they do now half a century later.

Whatever Bowie's intention, I read it to be about alienation.

I didn't fit into or understand the world then and I don't now.

Thank you for this interesting topic WD.

  • I think mine would have to be 'My pink half fo the drainpipe' by The Bonzo Dog Doo-dah Band. I don't know how to get the lyrics for it, so you'll have to look it up and have a listen, the crazy music is half the fun anyway.

I too like Comfortably Numb, which is just as well as now I think I've got it as an ear worm!

  • Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd and Space Oddity by Bowie are my favourites, but Unforgiven by Metallica could have been written for me:

    New blood joins this Earth
    And quickly he's subdued
    Through constant pained disgrace
The young boy learns their rules

With time, the child draws in

    This whipping boy done wrong
    Deprived of all his thoughts
The young man struggles on and on, he's known

Ooh, a vow unto his own

    That never from this day
    His will they'll take away

What I've felt, what I've known

Never shined through in what I've shown
    Never be, never see
Won't see what might have been

    They dedicate their lives
    To running all of his
He tries to please them all
    This bitter man he is

    Throughout his life, the same
    He's battled constantly
    This fight he cannot win
A tired man they see no longer cares

    The old man then prepares
    To die regretfully
That old man here is me

What I've felt, what I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
    Never be, never see
Won't see what might have been

What I've felt, what I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
    Never free, never me
    So I dub thee unforgiven
