Hoping for a better day today

Yesterday was "one of those days", the washing machine finally died, my hairdresser was ill and had to cancel, my new landline phone won't take answerphone messages, my mobile randomly decides who it's going to let me phone or message. I went to join two hoses together with a new connector, which failed under pressure and I ended chasing a madly waving "snake" spraying water over the wrong bit of the garden. My pooter keyboard and mouse are playing up too, the mouse dosen't obey me when I click on things it either dosen't work at all or takes me two or three pages back and the keyboard's not reponding to certain letter, or gives me loads of them and then it starts jumping about and I find I've written a whole paragraph in the middle of a word 5 or 6 sentences above.

I Want a nice quiet peaceful day today.

  • I'm sure you could, it's pretty simple, people get scared into forking out for them to be fitted. Mine came with a spanner for undoing 4 travelling bolts, they stop it moving about in transit, take them out. push the hose through the hole in the cupboard to connect to the water supply, screw these together, this was the hardest part, as it's awkward to get at as I was scrabbling about under the sink. Plug it into the electric socket and switch it on at the wall, shove the drain hose into the pipe on the wall and push it back in its hole and there it is all done.

  • Well done, I'm very impressed! I couldn't have done that.

  • I fitted the washing machine and it all works, although I did have to drag it out of it hole again after realising that I'd forgotten to switch it on at the wall, all fine now though and it's soooo quiet.

  • New washing machine arrived today so now I just need to fit it.

  • Gosh - my Fridge Freezer is on way out, had this 5 years, previous one possibly 20 years.  That's it red wine - to start the weekend early

  • Like I say, I'm tight, but I can understand why you'd rather pay someone else to do it, theres things I'd happily pay for that others think are easy and stressless.

Anglesey is a beautiful island, or at tleast it is in good weather, when it's a howling gale and the best way to stay dry is to lie flat on the ground and let the horizontal rain blow over the top of you, it dosen't feel it so much. I think thats what we might have over the weekend, and there are loads of tourists in tents for the Bank Holiday, silly people, never camp in Wales or Scotland

  • I just had to remind myself (ie google!) where Anglesey is - wow, it looks gorgeous! So beautiful!

For me it’s well worth the £29.99 for fitting to avoid the dress of trying to do the fitting myself. I am just not a practical person unfortunately!

  • Anglesey being an island you're never far from the sea, but yes I do live about a mile away from the sea. I resent paying for fitting a washing machine when it's so simple and a 10 minute, if that, job.

  • Sorry to hear that. Last month my toaster died and then my microwave went a few days later.

I hope you had a good day today.

  • The shore? You live on the coast? Sounds wonderful! When I’ve had a new washing machine delivered I’ve always paid for collection/connection - so never get involved with all of that. My anxiety about these things is such that I always order stuff like that from John Lewis - not the cheapest but I trust them to do as they say and I have big trust issues!

  • I might try that Roy, thanks.

I managed to get a hair appt for tomorrow, so thats good. Now I can't get the water hose off of the washing machine so as I can take it out ready for the new one on friday. Fearn and I nearly got run over by a numpty in an electric range rover driving to fast down a track that's mostly for walking but does have vehicular access for the few houses on the shore, she'd left the gate open at the top too. I don't think she was going to slow down until I jumped in front of her and started waving, I don't think she'd seen Fearn at all, this is supposed to be a safe place to let dogs off lead, if she'd have stopped I'd have given her a piece of my extensive vocabularly! One of the houses has recently become and airb&b, so I think I will have to find out who owns it and ask that they ensure thier guests obey the rules and exercise what little common sense they have. My electrician has had to cancel again and it will probably be late summer before he can fit us in, there are so few trades people here and if anyone can fit you in quickly then they're generally not to be trusted, there are loads of cowboy builders here.

I can usually deal with builders and stuff breaking down, as long as I can get people round to fix them or get a replacement, when I lose it is when things break just as I'm about to use them or if the shops are being difficult, especially online shops and searches. When going to get this new washing machine, despite knowing exactly what I wanted and using the model number to search for it, the usual happened and one of what I searched for came along with a dozen that I didn't, why? It bugs the hell out of me, if I've gone to the bother to be that specific, its because thats what I want, not a load of random stuff! The continuing enshitification of the internet carries on a pace!

  • I’m sorry! We’ve had a similar time of it recently - so many things breaking or not working - and I’m rubbish at dealing with practical problems and get massively stressed out by them! I find it so hard to keep things like that in perspective. I hope you are having the more peaceful day you are hoping for :)

  • Sending good vibes your way!

  • Those annoying things always have to travel in packs. Hope you’re shaving a better day so far!

  • You have had objects ganging up on you again!

I had the same fault with my laptop, the cure was to disconnect it from the mains and remove the battery, you then hold down the power button for about 30 seconds. This totally drains the computer down and often cures the problem you have been experiencing. I can’t guarantee it but it often helps.

    Have a peaceful day.
