New phrase needed!

I was chatting with a friend and we agreed that there needs to be an updated version of the phrase teaching your granny to suck eggs, as since the wider availability of dentures nobody needs to such eggs anymore.

Any ideas anyone?

Teaching granny to watch TV

Teaching granny to make a cup of tea

Here's the only human one I've come up with so far:

It's like teaching a baby to cry.

It's like teaching:

A cat to hunt

A magpie to steal

A fish to swim

A bird to fly

I suppose it's much easier with non human animals though as so much is instinct and tends therefore to be ever present.
