A place to share our photos Camera with flash

The flowers are bright and beautiful, the sky blue and cloudless. I went out first thing to take these pics, I dare not face the heat now. Time to hide inside until cooler times.

  • Here are a few nature pics I have taken, mostly in my garden a few years ago.

There's a mayfly, hoverfly, cricket, butterfly, 2 spiders and a robin. The big hoverfly is a hornet hoverfly, they look like hornets but are harmless.
I should have lots more interesting photos, I never back them up though, they are on old computers that I really need to do something about. One of my USB sticks just corrupted and I think I have lost what was on there (I think it was just a copy though, but can't tell now)..

  • Oh wow, they’re incredible! Good eye! What camera do you use if I may ask?

  • Olympus OM-D E-M1.

But modern phones are pretty good too now. I am not sure you really need a camera anymore.

It is all about noticing what would make a good picture, and then getting the light right. Which is often luck as you don't want to stand around for hours or go super early. Note that pictures taken in the middle of the day when most people are out and about taking snaps look flat. Early morning and evening are best.

    Cropping the picture helps too.

Plus with digital rather than film you take dozens of photos of the same thing and pick the best one. You rarely get the best shot on the first attempt. You want to check them at the time, not looking later.

Practice makes you better and play with the settings. Note what works.

It depends on how much you like it or whether you just want a quick snap as a reminder. I mostly take snaps on my phone, but occasionally there is something worthy of a bit of effort.

  • Thanks! I’m usually using my phone as well. It’s just handy and I agree with you. It’s mostly about finding the right moment to capture. But sometimes, when I see a motive I really like, I use a camera just because a picture taken with my digital camera looks better printed and zoomed in. Especially the ISO-value is so much more precise with a camera (especially when operated manually).
