Same meaning - different wording?

Does anybody get this situation?

You're in a group discussion and you state your opinion on the matter, and people disregard it or dismiss it out of hand. Then, someone else will have their say and they get everyone nodding their  heads in agreement, in spite of the fact they have just aired the same opinion as you did  but worded it differently. You thinking to yourself, "that's exactly what I was saying!"

This has happened so many times, I've felt like I'm speaking an alien language!

  • Many women find this in the work place, NT and ND women, it's like it's not a real idea unless a man says it, I guess it could also be a status thing, the higher up the greasy pole you are, the more likely you are to be heard.

  • It puts me in mind of those Fast Show sketches. Annabella Weir, chatting about cars with woman friends, proper clued up about engines and the mechanics of a vehicle. Then, some men sidle over, and she turns all ditsy (stereotypical "dumb blonde":type).

It's fun, but it does kind of highlight the dumbing down of women in a so-called "man's world".

Plus, you mention the greasy pole: you're more likely to be heard the higher up you are, but also the further down you get to slide. It much harder for women to get up the pole to start with, and even harder it is for women to stay up there.

It's no right, but it still happens. Thumbsup
