Hobbies related to special interest

Hi everyone, I'm Miff. I'm 27 and I have autism and ADHD. I'm a bit new to being part of an online group like this so please bear with me, and apologies in advance for any mistakes I will probably make.

I've been told a good way of introducing yourself is to do an ice breaker, so I thought I would ask about hobbies related to your special interest.

My favourite hobby is recording videos for movies and TV series. I love doing this, and voicing over for animated videos. If I ever get my anxiety in to a better place I will go to college to study this properly and hopefully ending up doing it for a career.

Another hobby I have related to my special interest is books and reading. I love to read and I love collecting books, so I have a vast variety of books in my library. Most I have never read although I do intend to read them all one day. Eventually!

I look forward to meeting you and reading your own hobbies.

Kind regards,
Miff.

  • I do drama, dance, Lego, jigsaws, drawing. I never have the same one for long though!

  • I’m really into collecting sports cards, and watching live sports card breaks has made that hobby way more fun for me. It’s exciting to see packs opened in real time, and the random element keeps it interesting. I’ll sometimes end up learning new stats or player info just by watching those breaks. It also scratches that social itch without needing to be face-to-face, which is a bonus.

  • Hi miff, I love doing diamond painting, and one of my most favourite interests are to do with true crime and serial killers, more of the mind of them, the crimes and how they managed to not get caught for so long, I studied forensic science and watch a lot of true crime and listen to a lot of podcasts, I even listen to them in the shower, it’s fascinating to me how someone can do this to another person(s)

  • I get obsessed with different franchises. One month or so it may be Marvel, then Jurassic Park, then Transformers etc. I collect all the toys and put out on display, take photos of them or video reviews for youtube. I'll daydream about things in the real world that are similar to those in whatever series it is I'm into to submerge myself in that world even more.

  • Hi Miff, welcome to the community, sounds like a fun hobby. Do you use a different voice for your animated movies voice over? I have a few hobbies, playing RPG/Strategy games on the PC, writing epic fantasy stuff (currently on a break), ancient history stuff especially the Roman Republic era...

  • This sounds like Alexa on speed. Joy I love it. GrinGrinGrinPurple heart

  • Your note on voiceovers has reminded me of a video game I made with a few colleagues years back. It was a bit of an experiment, we got it to a playable state with 3 levels, but it was a bit janky. It was so funny recording the sound effects though. Just standing there going "huh!" for jumping or "Ah!" for pain. When you play them back, some of them sound like... Other things.

An interest/hobby/time sink for me is smart home automation. I don't really use voice assistants, they're too slow and more complicated than using switches for things like lights. I also tend to prefer using "dumb" devices and making them smart. So as an example. I can turn on movie mode in the living room by flipping a cube on the table. The TV turns on, the surround sound turns on, the TV changes to the right channel, the lights of the fire turn on, and the room lights dim. Then when you select the movie and start playing, the some lights dim right down but mosy turn off completely. Then, when the pizza arrives and the driver presses the "dumb" £10 wireless doorbell I have, a little reciever detects the signal, pauses the movie, and turns the light up so you can find your way to the door.

I don't think those are even the most complicated ones in there. There are some things I've forgotten I've programmed which is always nice when they still work after not being triggered for about a year.

  • Hello Miff, Welcome to the forum. I hope you enjoy being here.

I like reading too - mostly archaeology, foreign culture, history, canine behaviour and fiction. By the sound of it, you might have more books than I do. My bookshelves bring me much joy, but I have only about fifteen books sitting on the ‘to read’ section. I tend to have at least three books on the go at one time.

I enjoy researching specific themes in archaeological material culture and I love to go walking with my dog. He is my best friend.

  • Hi and welcome to the community. I'm a woman in my sixties and I enjoy reading and playing video games.

  • Great to meet you! Collecting books is almost as fun as reading them, though I need a good fantasy or sci-fi book going at all times to stay sane. Voiceover is so cool! I wish I knew more about it, but I’ve gotten much into acting so it’s all new to me

  • Thanks for sharing, I do amateur radio as one of my hobbies, speaking using radio and not the internet to connect with others across town, a valley, the space station and far away.
