I need some new clothes but I don't know where to get them from

I hate clothes shopping, I desperately need a couple of new cardigans, but can see nothing I really like, but maybe thats the point, I can't actually see them, I can see an image the size of a postage stamp, or a post card if I can enlarge it enough. I don't know how people do internet shopping, I go to the stores I'm familiar with from the high st like M&S, but when it comes to what tohers have told me to do and type exactly what I want into the search bar on goggle I either get nothing, or a load of what I didn't ask for. Others seem to be able to just type in a search and up pops the ideal item, just what they asked for. Why does this not work for me?

It's getting to the point where if you come to Anglesey and see some crazy looking old woman walking around wrapped in a blanket it will be me!

  • Most of Kit and kaboodle stuff is to short for me and I don't like patterns and bright colours.

I just had a look at Seasalt, nice stuff for somebody else, but not me, to short, to many patterns poor range of colours.

I hand wash proper knitwear with the appropriate laundry product, I tend to get mucky, I have an invisible hole in my lip that dribbles food and drink and dogs and cats that decorate me with muddy paw prints.

I'd rather have quality than quantity, I had two really good cardigans from a second hand shop, there seemed to a woman the same size as me who hardly wore her clothes before putting them in the charity shop, the two that are now falling apart I've had for about 10 years, I think they cost me less than a fiver each. This woman dosent seem to give her clothe's away anymore, or she's moved, either that or someone in the charity shop has decided we don't deserve nice clothes and has taken them somewhere "posher".

As I said earlier I'm not buying anything else from China, even ebay seem to be getting fed up with a lot of the companies.

We've got an EWM and Pringles near us and they're no good for me, their stuff would be OK if I wanted to look like a tea cosy, I've sometime bought a thick mens jumper from there to wear when dog walking, but their idea of longer length trousers is a 29" inside leg, I'm a 33 and not even their mens ones are that long.

  • so for example i love shein.

You might want to keep this in mind:

"Authorities in South Korea found that some items of Shein clothing contained carcinogenic substances hundreds of times over the legal limit."

From: Le Monde - Shein and Temu products found to contain high levels of toxic chemicals

  • There is a company in the uk called Kit and Kaboodal - they sell clothes (and lots of natural linen and cotton)  that are ‘one size’ that they claim will fit size  8 to 18 (something like that - from memory). I’ve bought some joggers and cotton tops from them and they are designed in such a way that I think they would fit most sizes. Very good if you’re a person whose weight fluctuates a little and who prefers natural fabrics. They regularly have reductions/offers too so they can be quite affordable.

  • Women's clothing sizing is ridiculous. How can one number indicate several dimensions? At least with men's clothes you usually get things like waist, leg length and chest measurements in cm or inches.

  • I love a good cardigan - so cosy - and I got a lovely cosy unisex cardigan from Uniqlo about 3 months ago. I also sometimes buy a cardigan from Seasalt when they have a sale as they have nice wool cardigans that are non scratchy in my experience. I make my wool cardigans last by not washing them - I saw a tip ages ago that suggested putting them in the freezer in a sealed freezer bag for 3 days - it kills any bacteria and they smell fresh again. It really does work - and not washing them means the knitwear lasts much longer. My policy is to buy decent quality clothes but not buy often. I like things to last.

  • If I come to Anglesey I'll be shouting out NAN !!!!

    Joking !!!  Laughing

But this time I do actually see your point.  I do (sometimes) buy clothes online for myself & others, and end up returning them as the pictures don't match the product.  I feel it's just a sign of the times, unfortunately.   The town I live in is bereft of clothes shops, and the nearest physical shop is about 40 mins away.

  • We don't have a primark the last time I looked in there they didn't have anything that would of fitted me, I'm the opposite of you, tall with long legs, most stuff is to short for me, M&S jeggings are oK, but things like tops and cardigans tend to end just under my boobs and a longer length one just below my waist. I've tried looking in long tall sally and I don't like their stuff, it's too mumsy for me either that or its officy or fancy going out clothes. I've not worn a skirt in years, I can't find tights that fit, I end up walking around like John Wayne with the gusset half way down my thighs and the waist band rolls itself down to my bum.

I'm not buying stuff from Chinese sites again, I was bought a "beautiful" cardigan, the picture looked lovely over sized and chunky knit, really long, when it arrived it not only didn't fit me,but it didn't fit my Mum either who's 7 inches shorter and 3 dress sizes smaller than me! A friend bought what he thought was a chunky knit fishermans style, woollen cardigan, what turned up was some horrible nylong fleese with a cable knit pattern printed on it, it didn't look like wool if you squinted at it from across the road in the dark!

  • I understand what you say about needing to see the clothes before buying them. I've had a lot of disappointment buying online because the material isn't how I expected it to be, or I get midi skirts that almost drag the ground on me - I am short, but it would be helpful if they put the actual length of the item  in the product details.

I buy most of my clothes from Primark because there is a store 15 minutes walk from where I live. I can usually find T shirts, cardigans, knickers socks and footwear that are suitable for me. I also got some good night shirts (Long T shirt style) there last year.

I usually buy bras and trousers, and sometimes skirts, from M&S - unfortunately they closed down the store near me a long time back, however there is a Simply Food store within walking distance where I can pick up online orders and return them for free if they're no good. Is that an option that might suit you?
