Hello, late diagnosed adult here!

Hi there, hope everyone is well.

I am a 42 year old male, lived in London for last 16 years in high pressure senior roles.  Last two years were particularly difficult - thought I was schizophrenic, couldn't communicate or share with my partner and was showing traits that I was not aware off.  Rigid routine, same meals, specificity about certain tasks and actions, exhaustion, lack of desire to socialise and many more that I cannot remember!

Started my assessment in London but decided to move back to Edinburgh to be closer to sibling and mother in December 2024.  I was diagnosed as level 1 ASD with traits of ADHD.  At first there was a huge sense or relief that I was not schizophrenic or depressed but the relief has since washed away and have struggled with regulating my emotions and communicating with my long distance parter of 7 months.

Just putting myself out there. I am in Edinburgh and looking to chat with other people with autism or ADHD here - virtual coffee or what not as I feel a bit lost and a bit stuck.

Have a fab Sunday everyone!

  • I find it reassuring that we sound very similar, so thanks for sharing.

I'm a 40 year old male, was diagnosed with ASD Level 1 and ADHD 18 months ago. Worked my socks off to achieve senior executive roles in my sector but by my late thirties realised that I was feeling constantly stressed, overwhelmed and catastrophising. I later learnt I had reached autistic burnout but had no idea of what to do differently. My workplace was fairly toxic so I left a year ago and since then have been working to identify who I really am and what my interests are, having masked so hard for so long and been a chronic people pleaser. Life is less certain now, but it's much truer and I'm happier, although occasionally anxious about uncertainty; though medication for anxiety has made this ten times better.

I'd be happy to meet up for a virtual coffee if you're interested Thumbsup tone2
