Not sure how to phrase this, but I am displeased with the existence of AI "art".

I saw people talk about how great this new AI art generator was, but it I just find it so unsettling that instead of trying to replace chores or tedious daily tasks, it's constantly stealing art work to improve itself in generating what I can only call slop.

Nothing will ever really take the joy I feel still making or producing art, media and animation, it's a fun activity you can do by yourself and have a routine for with then a great sense of progression and reward, but the fact you can know get some people in comments saying things like "I can do this with just a prompt" is demeaning.

Is anyone else feeling or experiencing this?

  • I scrolled briefly on the steam store and saw AI generated games with all the art and probably code as well being ai generated, shovel ware used to be made by humans on a whim, but now it can be churned out at such a fast rate and flood entire market places.

  • Well okay. In my place of work, scientists are using AI to run their analyses at rates much greater than they were able to only two years ago. Some of their work will likely result in new treatments for cancer.

  • See this is the type of AI usage I'm ok with, professional setting, a designated purpose, trying to replace repetitive or load heavy work, it's with creative outputs and medias replacements that make feel slightly frustrated

  • Honestly I wonder if Aliens would actually get some pretty good entertainment just watching our planet and humans

  • I wonder what other strands of human endeavour will also likely be positively influenced by AI.

Judging by some of the real mess humans have made of things of late, I suspect we could do with all the assistance we can acquire.

    A current example:

Despite many of our generations / us living in cities, or conurbations, for the over 260 years since since the commencement of the Industrial Revolution ...our society still has YET to master:

    - not dumping our human waste into our sources of drinking water, and

    - not dumping our discarded refuse into our streets - as though some cosmic Genie swoops in overnight to whisk it away ...out of sight, out of mind.

(Then, with an astonished gasp, people wonder why the genus Rattus thrives in our neighborhoods ...oh, yes, as a species we are clearly "on top of everything" ...not.

Harnessing some aspects of AI-influenced pest control has got to be worth a try).

I appreciated this AI "Pest Buddies" concept by the British Pest Control Association:

We wonder why life forms from elsewhere in the universe bypass our blue marble ...."look at that nasty case of humanoid infestation down there" ..."helm control, skip ahead to the next planet, if you please!".
