Favourite book or books as a child

Hi all,

Sorry if this question has already been asked in the forums. I was thinking about some of the books I enjoyed and treasured from my childhood, what are some of the books that are stand out to you?

Fiction books - pre teenage years - Fantastic Mr Fox (I was obsessed with this book, no idea why really?), Frog & Toad, there was also a scratch and sniff book about a country mouse, day of a dog written like a diary, Teenage years - Dragonlance books & Lord of the Rings

Non fiction - pre teenage years - not sure of the title but it was a big book on dinosaurs, used to love copying drawings of them, various historical books about ancient civilisations, I can't recall their names but used to like get them from the library. Teenage years - Normans...always had a big thing for the Normans, more Roman stuff really.

Would love to hear about some of the books that you remember with fondness

I get my love of reading from my gran. My gran had a wonderfully bright and furnished library. She was a girl in WW2 and was evacuated to a lovely house in the country that was owned by an older man and woman. The gardens were full of beautiful flowers and hedgerows, and there was this one room that was full to the brim with books of all colours and sizes. My gran spent much of her childhood in this room. So long as she was very careful she was allowed to read some of the books (never the leather bound or extremely old ones) and from that, she grew to love books and reading. She did write her diaries and asked my mum to publish them one day, mum said she would, but she became sick and after she died my step mum binned them all. By the time I found out what had happened the bin men had long since been and gone.

So sad. But growing up I spent some lovely days with my gran and I think that’s where my love of reading comes from.
