Im new and in need of some help x

Hi there,

My Name is Kirstie i am a mum to 3 kiddies who are 1,3 & 5 and another on the way. My Eldest boy whos 5 has been diagnosed with Autism (possibly Aspergers syndrome) i was just looking for advice about how i can try to understand all of this. I am struggling with his Behaviour more than anything as he can get very stressful & Angry very easily over the littlest of things. When im telling him off i never know if i am doing the right thing or the wrong thing He also doesnt like to be inturupted if he is doing something and sometimes screams, and shouts so loud i just dont know what to do its soo hard,he also has started to not listen to me when i ask/tell him to do something and when i ask why his response is "cos i want to" or i dont want to. At school the teachers have noticed his "stressy" side coming out recently and are going to sort some support out for him and for me at home. Even coming home from school he will just run off regardless i do warn him be4 hand not to run off and he doesnt listen to me. He also does tend to finger flick all the time when very excited it is very noticeable.

Any advice would be greatfully appreciated.

Thank you Kirstie x

  • Hello Kirstie,

Just wondering about your son's reactions when you inform him that a meal is ready for him - does he eat without hesitation, or does he become very upset at being interrupted? I ask as I wonder if he is simply operating a different schedule to others, 'out of synch', and although he would eventually in his own time complete what others request of him, he is unable to comply at the drop of a hat? Certainly, trying to have him conform to the schedules of others will cause endless distress for him, so adapting to his internal calendar (if he can articulate what he wants to do and when) would alleviate some temper tantrums.
