banning from forums?

I'm really upset I'm banned from a certain unnamed forum... I posted something personal about ... well it's a mod where the admin of that particular forum i'm banned from is also an admin somewhere else... so I'm banned... I didn't even understand that so I tried to appeal it through a message under another account but i was told don't come back...

has anyone else had any similar experiences?

  • Ha, that was the first thing I got in trouble with on the internet too!

It's a LOT easier to get in trouble on the web, nowadays!

  • I got banned from a general chat forum, quite a few years ago, 'cos i voiced my opinion on the murderers of Jamie Bulger and other scumbags who thought they could steal and terrorise the communities they lived in. I thought it was unfair 'cos, i never used any foul language, and the comments i made were no different than those being said on mainstream Tv and newspapers at the time. But a small clique of dogooders on the forum, turned against me, and complained. It was  said at the time, the forum owners had to be hyper-careful what was  said. Some of these people could take offence and takethe forum owner to Court. At the time, about a dozen of the most chatty posters left and joined a differant forum.

  • Somewhere on this forum, there is a Forum Survival thread I started which might be of use to some participants here.

As autists we are used to getting the shi77y end of the stick in "real life", follow my given advice and there is absolutely no reason to take it online, as well...

    It's all a learning experience.

  • I was on a photographic forum where sevrale members got 'banned' because they stood up for another member who like me had Aspberger's.  We all thought 'bugger this' and marched off to another forum and slagged them completely off.  I shouldn't let it worry you, just put it down to experience.  We did.

  • have never been banned from forums because have always read the rules over and over and over before until have got some understanding of them, but have been bullied off two forums for being LFA-one of them a very well known ASD community but am back on it now as the user got banned for it.

  • There probably was another dilpomatic way of responding however she kept making up excuses,i cant remeber what were now! however i was urging her to get straight to a&e but she sat on that computer for around 5 hours whilst people were trying to tell her to do something, anyway it went on for a longtime and this was the first time it happened to her baby to be honest i was just disgusted. And yes i got banned for being rude which i was quite at the end as she was putting her childs life in danger.

Any normal baby turning blue should go straight to A&E. However, first aid from a medic or first aider may actually save the kid's life in the mantime if the child is choking on something. The trip to A&E may take too long in a lot of cases.

Some kids are born with heart conditions that mean they turn blue from time to time. My cousin was a blue baby and has had lots of very serious surgery to replace valves etc over the years. She didn't need to go to A&E every time she turned blue but her mother had a hard time helping her and looking after her other kids.

in either case, did the criticism help anything or did it just get you banned from a forum? Was there another, perhaps more diplomatic, way of responding?

  • Well she was, however it sounded like she was doing nothing about it,and to me if a baby is truning blue you take them straight to a&e however this woman was sitting on the net and comming out with excuse after excuse. Now to me when you do that you are risking your childs life and to me thats wrong.

Sometimes we aspies need to think twice and post less often? Sometimes it is best to keep your thoughts to yourself and perhaps hope that someone else will take up the cudgels of an argument?

Mumof4boys: was the other mum looking for help rather than looking for criticism?

  • I got banned from a site for voicing my opinions on a mother whom was sat on the inetrnet whilst her baby was going blue!!!!!

  • Creating new accounts to get round bans is usually a bannable offence on most forums.

What you need to understand is that internet forums are not democratic.

    They are dictatorships.

What the owners, administrators, and moderators decide is final.

You can try to appeal to them, it usually does no good.

And, yes, I've been banned from forums because of complete misunderstandings too.

In one instance I did not, and still do not, know why I was even being banned!

  • I created a new account to it just got banned again...

  • What happened when you contacted the moderator to point out they had misunderstood?

  • What??? nooo, from what the staff member said it was evident they had misunderstood...

  • I can only summise from what you have said, that it was the venting itself that caused the banning in that case.

  • what i said offended someone which  i didn't realize... it wasn't clear who i referring to when i went off on a vent and i think the mods thought i was referring to them when  i was actually referring to another forum

  • I didn't say you said you were bullied.  And bullying takes many forms.  Cyber bullying is when people take actions online which are e.g. intimidatory, ganging up, being nasty or being unfair for instance.  Banning you, you say, was a mistake.  But clearly they had a reason, whether that reason was fair or not will determine whether you were bullied or not.  Perhaps the mod on that forum was unprofessional and in cahoots with other members, in which case if another member contacted the mod privately encouraging them to ban you for instance, this would have been unfair and in my view, a type of bullying.

Whatever the reason, I was answering your post in sympathy, it doesn't appear you have taken it at all that way.  Good luck with getting the answers you want!

  • Huh I didn't say I was bullied? I said the staff made a mistake when banning meee!

  • Yes I was bullied off another forum.  It sadly happens, you are not alone.

Try to shrug it off, I know it's awful when they have done wrong and it's unfair but it's their loss.
