Batten down the hatches, again

90mph wind predicted for friday and heavy rain, this is the second 90mph storm in as many months, we've only just recovered from the last one. Holyhead port only partially reopened this week after being almost destroyed by the last one.

I feel I'm getting a bit blase, when I see the winds will only be 40mph, it wasn't that long ago that 40mph winds were a once a year thing, maybe twice a year in the Scottish Highlands and Islands.

So it hits us friday night, I've got the candles ready and the xmas tree lights and batteries, so hopefully I'll see you all as usual on saturday, but if not then you'll know we've got no power!

  • Just home after taking my dog for a walk. I wanted to take him in the car to a more sheltered spot but the only three exit roads from my home were blocked by fallen trees, only a few metres from my home. Fences are down, roof tiles are scattered here and there, and people are wandering about trying to figure out how to get out. fortunately, nobody seems to have been injured and my home is intact. I’m so glad the worst is now over. Hope everyone else in the red alert area is ok.

  • Same here. My neighbour’s fence came down and many of the houses in my street lost ridge tiles. The only damage I had was the felt has come off my shed roof, so I’ve been lucky.

The shops were all shut here too so there was nothing to do but stay in and comfort my wee cat who was upset by all the noise. Grateful I didn’t have to take him out for a walk!
