Batten down the hatches, again

90mph wind predicted for friday and heavy rain, this is the second 90mph storm in as many months, we've only just recovered from the last one. Holyhead port only partially reopened this week after being almost destroyed by the last one.

I feel I'm getting a bit blase, when I see the winds will only be 40mph, it wasn't that long ago that 40mph winds were a once a year thing, maybe twice a year in the Scottish Highlands and Islands.

So it hits us friday night, I've got the candles ready and the xmas tree lights and batteries, so hopefully I'll see you all as usual on saturday, but if not then you'll know we've got no power!

  • The storm went through Cornwall last night, I heard a loud bang at 4am, an upstairs window had blown in. The wind blowing in was horrendous, I managed to cut and screw a piece of ply over the window. I wasn’t looking my best at 4.15am, in my underwear at the window.

  • Roy, I'm glad you're OK, that sounds like a hairy night!

I think it's just about died down now, I need to go out and look at the roof and pick things up, like the bins that blew over. Fearn and I didn't go out today, to dangerous. We've lost more of the greenhouse and a shed window has blown in, but I think that can just be nailed back into place, the garden is in a hell of a mess though.
