Bar room barristers!

There are different types of these characters, from the political ones like Nigel Farage and his ilk from all political wings, to the muesli knitters, yogurt weavers and tofu welders and garage guddlers. Muesli knitters are serious back to the land types who want self sufficiency in food and clothing and recomend vile tasting potions to you for every sniffle. Yogurt weavers often add a new age spiritual slant to the previous and seem to think that when they meet that elusive creature known as a soul mate then they will have amazing sex without anyone having to sleep in the wet patch. Tofu welders tend to be male and have new age ideas about technology and how to create it, they are related to garage guddlers although garage guddlers tend to be more nuts and bolts types who would like to reinvent the infernal combustion engine to run on nettle juice or some equally unlikely substance.

  • amazing sex without anyone having to sleep in the wet patch.

    Absolutely brilliant

  • Were you a raver and did you travel across Europe? How do you know these people?

  • Maybe they were already teachers social workers nurses and journo's, some might even have been bankers, car salesmen, farmers and gardeners.

  • My Great Aunt once drove a Yellow Mini; back in the late Eighties. (Granddad's Sister) I loved being a passenger on it.

  • The Illegal Ravers from the Late Eighties/Early Nineties ended up becoming Teachers, Nurses, Social Workers, Journos and 'Life Coaches'. They pursued their Green Agenda to the ends of the Earth. Calling for 'Class War'; while they could afford to travel across Europe.

What a fool I was to have watched Captain Planet. That was when the indoctrination began.

  • This post reminds me of some colleagues over many decades in many of the supermarket jobs that I’d worked in, who believed that their number of years working in non-management positions on the checkouts and shop floor, stores, bakery, meat counters, etc gave them a kind of “degree” in psychology and other related fields without needing to go to university, based solely on life experience - at the time, I initially thought they were totally wrong, but since Covid, I’ve begun to rethink their words of wisdom and in many cases they turned out to be correct, as they were firmly grounded in reality that has been lost by many in our society and in our times, even in the last 5-10 years before Covid - the sense of basic moral values and common sense based on traditions that were once highly valued has been lost since my teens in the 80’s

  • Great picture.

    I'd forgotten the bus tickets!

  • You have cheered me up with this post. The tea  is usually made from used bus tickets and in the corner of the workshop is an Austin Allegro, usually in the mustard colour that looks like baby diarrhoea.

  • Ha ha Catwoman, your imagination is wonderful and has given me a giggle! Grin

However, I believe it's hot chocolate to get into Narnia!

  • They also make some kind of dubious "tea", which I'm sure is made from the crud collected from the corners of pockets from old coats and jackets found in the back of wardrobes. Maybe they hope if they drink enough of this brew they'll find the way to Narnia?

  • I have met some of these people, you have pretty much described them. I’m sure as a side hobby, they also Morris Dance!
I’m also sure they fashion their tankards in their own workshops whilst powering the workshops on collected rainwater and potato peelings.

  • Garage guddlers are usually male, people who spend a lot of time in thier workshop/garage/shed surounded by tools and bitds of things that will come in handy one day, they rarely want to buy anything new, unless it's a tool, but want to make something instead. The list of possible things to make is endless and can range from a new type of spade to a nuclear fusion reactor. Sometimes they can be tin foil hat wearers and even go to the extremes of a belt made from metal paper clips that touches the ground to keep them earthed.

  • Doesn’t understand “garage guddler”

maybe try "inventor" or "rick sanchez".

  • Doesn’t understand “garage guddler” Sob

  • Tofu welder - this one’s rather good!

  • Pretty good I'd say, ask it about the others and post what it comes up with?

  • This prompted me to ask ChatGPT what a muesli knitter looks like. It created this:
