About a week ago, I received delivery of a frameless wall mirror I'd ordered. As the mirror is one that slots onto a couple screws (not provided), this meant I was required to drill a couple of holes in my wall.
Back when I was in my twenties and thirties, I used to enjoy DIY. If I wasn't painting, wallpapering, or fitting carpet, then I was putting up the likes of shelves and curtain tracks. Unfortunately, I now find that I really have to psyche myself up to do DIY, as I no longer derive any pleasure from it.
The other day, I decided the time had come to finally get my mirror on the wall. Having chosen a couple of screws, taken measurements, and marked the wall with where I needed to drill, I then proceeded to drill the holes. As my next-door neighbour's home is the other side of the wall I was drilling into, I had anticipated some resistance. I drilled the first hole with a lot more ease than I had expected, but drilling the second hole proved to be a bit of a battle.
Eventually, after succeeding in drilling the second hole to the depth I wanted, I then found I was unable to hammer the rawlplug fully into it. This resulted in me using a pair of pliers and a bradawl to remove the rawlplug. The issue appeared to be that the diameter of the hole I had drilled (using the same drill bit that I'd used for the first hole) was a bit too small.
After what had felt like an eternity, I was finally able to hang the mirror, but much to my frustration I couldn't get it to slot properly onto the screws. This is when I decided that I my measurements must have been incorrect, and that I would have to start all over again.
Yesterday, I started again and drilled two new holes. Yes, it was another battle, but it was worth it as the mirror is now on the wall. Hurrah!
