Autism Diagnosis Waiting Lists & Moving Homes

Hi all,

Apologies for the long post but I’d really appreciate advice/information from knowledgeable people.

I’m a dad to a 6, soon to be 7, year old non-verbal boy. We’re still waiting for a diagnosis (we suspect Autism with GDD). We’re on the waiting list and have been for 2 years now. Prior to that, we were on a waiting list under a different local authority and NHS trust, and just after we moved we received a call saying we’d reached the front of that waiting list. Unfortunately because we’d moved they couldn’t see our son, and at the same time we were told we had to start the whole process from scratch with the new LA & NHS trust. It’s been 2.5 years since then, and as mentioned earlier, we’ve been on the waiting list for 2 years. On a positive, we managed to secure a SEND school place. Beyond the ridiculous waiting times to get the help we all need for our children, the issue is that we want to buy a house, and the only affordable options we have are moving outside of our current LA boundaries, & NHS trust. What we don’t want is to end up having to start the whole process again from scratch, like what happened to us the last time we moved. Surely it can’t be that if you move LA & NHS trusts you have to restart all over again. Those knowledgeable in this area, my question is can we move home to a new LA and be placed on the waiting list based on our entry date with our current LA, or would we have to start from scratch again, thus delaying our son’s diagnosis even further?
