no, stop, etc..

Hi my child struggles to cope with words like no and stop whenever they are said around him (even if not directed at him) he has a major meltdown as you can imagine this makes everyday convo very hard for example my autie boy may be watching his fave tv show and a typical convo "oh do you want pasta for tea?"  My partner wilk reply "no not tonight" and this causes a meltdown!?  Help!? Does anyone else experience this we are currently saying n..o.. and spelling out the words but when you forget its a nightmare thanks

  • Seconding the phraseology thing! Though I don't (usually) have problems distinguishing between things that are and are not directed at me (well, not any more), how things are phrased is still quite important.

A straight up 'no' makes me anxious and defensive, but "I don't agree" or suchlike is not a problem.
