PIP

Hi does any one just diagnosed with ASD claim pip and any tips on filling form in please

  • You can find information about PIP along with how to claim it - including tips on filling in the form - here:

NAS - Benefits for autistic adults

    NAS - Personal Independence Payment

Citizen's Advice should be able to help with you with related advice and guidance (link contained in the article).

  • I was diagnosed a couple of months ago but actually started getting some benefits some time before that for what I now know are autistic responses to the world. So I didn't have to be diagnosed but I still was able to get help. It's not pip I'm on, but the health component of Universal Credit.

I filled the form in, just explaining what I struggled with, and that I felt exhausted all the time, and while I could do some work, the hours that I was currently doing were all that I could cope with and that if I did any more it would affect my health. That I needed recovery time after interacting with others, and so on.

Then I got a phonecall from a nurse practitioner that lasted about an hour and she asked me lots of questions similar to the form and asked me to expand on them. I used examples from my worst days but explained that some days were better than others.

I think it really depends on the people handling your case. I was very lucky, but I have heard some horror stories.

    It is possible though.

Any other more specific questions, please feel free to ask.
