Comfort items

Do you have a comfort item?

I have a comfort blanket which I carry round with me. Sometimes I carry it out in the open if I’m feeling more anxious than normal but most of the time it stays in my bag. Just knowing it’s there makes a huge difference for me. When I’m at home I always leave it on my bed and make sure it’s neatly folded in a certain way.

I’ve also got a comfort bear but she stays on my bed. I got her when I was six and she’s been my comfort bear ever since then really.

  • If fidget toys count, then yes. Since being diagnosed this year, I have gone from wrecking my own fingers by picking the skin to using several stim toys.

My favourite is these. I don't go anywhere without one. But beware the cheaper ones that smell metallic and leave a metallic smell and taste on your hands. An ex-member here recommended it, and I am eternally greatful.

I also have one of these which is quite fun, but this 'lives' on my desk.
