Headphones in college

Hi all,

I'm hoping someone can advise.

My daughter is currently in her 2nd year of college and is having difficulties. She has extreme misophonia and a student in class makes noises that they can't help which affects my daughter. She went to a PRU high school which allowed her to put her head phones on. She doesn't listen to anything it's just to muffle background noise but she can still hear the teachers. College are saying she can't use her headphones even after having her ASD report. It's apparently against policy to have headphones on in class that can play music.

Does anyone know of anything she can use as she can't use anything that goes inside of her ears as it enhances her own sounds.

  • I think a stiff letter from CAB or even a solicitor would do, this is clearly discriminatory, she's not being allowed the adjustments that enable her to function properly, it sounds like someone's to up themselves to look at her case properly.

  • 100% what I was thinking. Kick up a stink and they'll make an exception. Not that mental wellness equipment is something that should call for exceptions to be made. It's really baffling because when I went to college I was wearing headphones and ski goggles and no one bothered me about it.

  • Yeh definitely I would say it does sound discriminatory. But lots a people are just like that now. Their rules come before everything now. I don’t know why some people so sad and pathetic like that but hey it’s up to them.
