Hello,My name is Bunnie and I am 20 years old and currently in my second year at college. I have a younger brother with ASD, Dyspraxia, MLD and Epilepsy. All my life my brother has had ASD and MLD but was diagnosed with MLD when he was around ten and the Epilepsy has come on in the past few years.
Over the years I have come to realise that I have only met one, yes only one, other person around my age with a sibling with autism. To me that sounds pretty amazing odds but I've attended three different schools and now am in college and to have only met one other person with a sibling with Autism or any form of ASD seems pretty high odds to me.
Are there other people around my age with siblings with ASD? I have felt over the last few years that I don't really know what my place is now with my brother. I was in boarding school for four years prior to going to University and that has had a major effect on my relationship with my brother and with my parents. Obviously I am at that point in my life where I am even less dependent on my parents and have begun to plan my own life but I am finding it difficult when I go home to interact with my brother.
If there are any other people here with advice or anyone my age I would love, love, love to talk to you. Realising I really don't know anyone in a similar situation or age range has been really shocking and quite upsetting.
