Video Games

I've always been fond of gaming and have always enjoyed spending my free time on playing video games. I'm curious, does anyone else here have an interest in gaming and if so, what videogames do you enjoy?

  • I do as well! I've always enjoyed video games and found them a fun hobby to do during free time.

My current favourite video games to play are The Sims 4 and 3, Far Cry, GTA, Minecraft, Plants Vs Zombies Garden Warfare and the Call of Duty games.

  • The best-selling video game to date is Mine craft, a 2011 multi-platform sandbox game released by Mojang, which holds the title of becoming the first video game to sell more than 300 million copies as of October 2play through a new video game as a user and provide feedback monkey type  to the designers and developers involved in the game's production. As a video game tester, you go through each level of the game, playing just like a consumer. games in existence. From high-speed racing adventures to perilous virtual dueling matches, there's a genre for everyone to enjoy.

  • The Zelda games are awesome. I love them all.

    • Sorry only just seen your reply thanks for answering. I’m rubbish at the combat and was in the first game. There’s a bit too much fighting at the moment for my taste but I’ve quite enjoyed it. First person games I always find more difficult don’t know why. Thinking of maybe playing Avowed next or maybe waiting for AC Shadows.
  • I've been extremely busy with my job recently so have not had time for games, which has made me sad. I finally got back to Zelda Tears of the Kingdom last night - a reason I've been putting it off is because it's just so big. But I'm glad I did - I spent a hour wondering how to light a fire in constant rain, and a challenge shrine with no equipment. The important thing was that nothing was rushing me and making me anxious, which is all I've been feeling in other aspects of my life the past month - it felt wonderful.

  • Agree on the GOT the music and landscapes were very comforting. Witcher 3 is really good but perhaps not so comforting...but great story and characters. Can be a bit scary in places too. Not sure if you have looked at Kingdom Come Deliverance, I am playing the second version of that at the moment. Its perhaps not too everyone's taste as there are is a lot of day to day stuff like, fixing things, eating, sleeping. You can make things as a blacksmith and do a bit of alchemy. Theres a lot going on really.

My real favourite RPGs are more the party based ones that are closer to D&D like Baldurs gate, Wrath of the Righteous etc, not sure if you have tried or interested in these?

  • I really enjoyed the haiku in Ghost of Tsushima too! Generally it was such a soothing game, not too noisy and the music, sounds, landscapes, were all very comforting to me.

I have never tried The Witcher 3, but I will surely do soon, thank you for the advice!

Yes, same here, RPG and open world games are my favouritekind of games, as you can mostly spend hours exploring and just collecting stuff, very relaxing.

  • RDR 2 was a great game, I quite Ghosts of Tsushima got a bit repetitive though..although I did like the little mini games especially the poetry one for some reason. Not sure if you have tried the witcher 3 but thats a fantastic game but is more of an RPG? I'm a big RPG fan myself.

  • Firstly, I really did want to love it, after all the first one is one of my all-time favourites.

However, it just felt like a DLC for the first game rather than a proper sequel to me. I felt the story was pretty poor, the start felt super forced in terms "be strong -> get injured -> slowly build up -> get injured again".. but then by the time I was halfway through the game my stats were around the 20 mark in most things and at that point I just steamrolled through the game, absolutely nothing was a challenge for me and finishing the last half of the game felt like a chore. The cutscenes towards the end of the game were particularly painful, and I also felt like the further through the game I got the buggier it got - with dialogue options being missing and replaced with weird strings of text and characters refusing to move or anything. The majority of the side content was pretty dull, too.

Combat is good on paper, with nice animations, but also janky. If you're on ground that isn't flat, there's a good chance your htis will miss your enemy. Group combat is super easy because enemies don't attack you at the same time, instead they patiently wait whilst the enemy you're currently locked onto hits you and you parry or whatever. Also, by the time you're a high level you will kill almost every enemy with 1 or 2 hits, regardless of what armour they are wearing, completely destroying any immersion.

The attention to detail in the game is amazing and really sets it apart, which makes it even worse when it's thrown out of the window for the sake of the plot or by some bug. For example, without spoiling too much, at one point you are shot at by people with guns. If you kill them all, bullets will still continue to fly through the air because they are scripted to do so, and it just looks and sounds stupid.

Some of the improvements on the first game are great - I love the new weapons. However, one thing that really bugs me is the fact you can have three different outfits you can switch between which is awesome - yet when you complete a quest or watch a cutscene that involves you wearing particular clothes you'll have to then re-do your outfit when coming out of that scenario. Just a small thing I know, but when it happens 5 times an hour whilst doing the main questline it begins to bug you.

Finally, the injection of modern politics, although fairly small, is definitely noticeable.

Okay, rant over, sorry. I did really want to love the game; the world they've created is amazing and I love the atmosphere and audio and everything, but as an actual game it just sucked.

  • It was such a shame when the developers stopped working on it. I understand that they wanted to move on from it, but Paradox was the wrong company to sell it to! Luckily, you can still use the Steam settings for the game to use the older 2018 version which is what I do when I play it.

  • I love World of Warcraft! It's one of my fave games and I've been playing it since I was about 13. I used to play Mario Kart but haven't recently....Also big on the Sims games.

  • That's awesome! My favourite was The Sims 2, so I'm glad that's been re-released. I am playing The Sims 4 but I have recently moved across to Xbox as I get so many technical issues with gaming PCs and laptops I've bought over the years. Thanks for the advice for motivation, I appreciate it!

  • Yes, I played when I was younger then I stopped as I believe my masking included the rule that a girl could not play videogames.

But I started again during the covid period and played all the Lego games, to re-learn how to play, then went through many Assassin's Creed and a couple of Mortal Kombat, God of War, Spiderman, Batman, I really love indie games even if they are short, loved The Journey and Gris.

My favourites ever though have been Red Dead Redemption 2 and Ghost of Tsushima.

  • I forgot about Prison Architect! Time was I played it every day, spent hours of fun on that game.

  • Hi orangutan, I am still playing KCD 2, why were you disappointed by it? I love RPG/strategy games myself....played them for probably too many years now!

  • Not really playing anything in particular at the moment, I finished Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 recently and I was extremely disappointed by it unfortunately. I typically love strategy/management, or RPG games.

A few favourites that come to mind in no particular order:

    Prison Architect
    Skyrim
    Pentiment
    Chivalry 2
    The Witcher 3

  • What Sims games do you like to play? I play The Sims 3 and 4 most. Still have The Sims Bustin Out on PS2 from my childhood. Grin

Sorry you struggle with motivation. When I lack motivation I aim to game for at least 5 mins a day, that helps me a little until I'm fully motivated again.

  • I like video games too.

Some of my favourite games I play

    • The Sims
    • Minecraft
    • The Lego games
    • Portal 1+2
    • Stardew Valley
    • Far Cry
    • Train Simulator
    • Assassins Creed
    • Pokemon

I like playing games they are a great way of relaxing.

  • I do have an interest in gaming, I like The Sims as evidenced by my username. I struggle to find the motivation and focus these days though, sadly.

  • I like lots of different video games. Some of my favourites are Skyrim, Pokemon, Need For Speed, GTA and I always love playing the Lego video games. I recently completed the Lego Jurassic World game.
