I'm a fan of Lovecraft. The idea of madness as a safe harbour from the truth scratching at the veneer of what we think is reality fascinates me. But I'm talking about the kind of horror that actually gets to you. For me, thalassophobia and megalophobia titilate me in the scary way. Videos of the deep ocean with the threat of giant monsters are watched with my phone screen not facing me directly. The idea of being hunted in a desperate environment with limited mobility feels like how nightmares feel, with you running and never getting anywhere.
The only horror I was scared of as an adult was the game p.t but most like resident evil I love the lore side of it
Horror gives me nightnares
I agree gore is something you can easily get desensitized to if you're not phobic of it.
I like monster movie horror (quiet place/alien/cloverfield etc), slashers tend to be silly and repetitive. Supernatural movies if they are well done can be really effective.
Gore is often over used, I find the suggestion of impending injuries or death more effective.
The sequel or reimagined movie with no new insight weakens it further.
Yeah slasher movies are more funny than thrilling when the threat is just a relentless psychopath. I like it better when it's something supernatural that breaks what people thought was reality.
Horror movies are great when you feel people around you jump. That just add to the fun.
Horrified!
No seriously, I'm not a fan of any of it really, I go into superanalytical mode and start asking questions, like 'why go to the basement, has this person never watched a horror film before?' 'Why not just punch it/them in the face?'
I like MR James' ghost stories, but most horror films leave me cold.
