Hi, I am a TA supporting learners with ASD who are in mainstream school.
I am also a keen woodworker and artist, and would like to use these skills, if i can , to support those i work with.
I am specifically interested in exploring how the use of tools and craft skills could help those with ASD. These ideas have come to me from reading Richard Sennets remarkable book The Craftsman (see link below) can see how some of the things he talks about, such as working with with your hands, thinking about material properties, creative problem solving etc, etc, could be very benficial to some of the learners I support.
I would like to see if there is any training out there that explores working practically alongside those with ASD.....has anyone heard of anything where practical objects are made, or tools used????
anyway, the link to the book is below, its very interesting!!
