Frankie Boyle "joke" about disability / Katie Price

Have seen this in news although did not watch the programme. Do you think the Frankie Boyle comments about Harvey (son of Katie Price) amount to disability hate crime? I do not usually agree with Katie Price (!!) but have complained to Ofcom and Channel 4. Unbelievably Channel 4 felt no apology was merited.

  • i don't think you should complain if you didn't actually see it

  • I haven’t seen or heard this joke. In general I avoid all news stories involving Z list ‘celebrities’.

Thinking back to my youth there were many very funny comedy shows that cannot be shown on TV these days because they would be regarded as sexist, racist or homophobic.

There was a popular series of jokes doing the rounds when I was young, They generally began with, ‘There was an Englishman, an Irishman and a Scotsman chatting in a pub…’ to think that if I finished one of those jokes these days I could end up with a criminal record seems absurd.

These days anybody telling a joke or making a speech is expected to consider how any listeners will feel about the content and judge whether they will be offended before they say a word.

This is very difficult or even impossible for many people on the spectrum.

    IMO
