Autistic Meltdown

Hello,

As some of you are aware, I'm currently writing a romance novel with one of the lead protagonists being autistic. I've been working quite hard in order to get his characteristics as close to the mark as I can and I believe I've been quite successful so far.

As such, I've had a rather critical piece converted to audio so that you can listen to what I've been writing. I'm hoping that this is in someway relatable and that I have got as close to the mark as I can.

The clip itself is barely five minutes long, but I hope that you will feel it as much as you can hear it. Any criticism or comments are welcome if anyone is interested at all.

Sviatoslav is told that his best-friend Lily is moving away from their hometown, a change that the cub doesn't take well in the slightest:

  • Most kind of you. It fills me with joy knowing that I have every confidence from my peers in order to get the job done effectively and professionally.

If this does ever go to market, I shall be making donations for the NAS for every copy I can sell. I owe much to the many support workers who have made this all a reality for me. And to everyone on here also, who have given me the will I need to not give up on myself and to carry on.

In many ways, this is a team effort

  • It'll be so wonderful to show the world what someone with autism can do when given the chance.

Absolutely!! This is why I love people doing autism in books and movies, so long as it's done right and portrays the "real" us.

Your book sounds very relatable and this sounds like a positive thing for you also. I wish you all the best with it, keep us posted on it.

  • Thanks friend, I do hope that this won't cause anyone any unnecessary distress should they ever get the chance to read it. I hope that if and when they do, they'll understand that what they're witnessing isn't done out of insanity or malevolence, but out of grief and pain, and that it's a coping mechanism.

Don't worry, this isn't going to be a public service announcement of some variety XD As much as I like people to be aware I'd rather do it in a way where they can relate and enjoy a heartwarming tale as they do so :)

I'll win through with this one day

  • I'm grateful for your input everyine. Please never be afraid to be critical if you need to be. I'm just so determined to get this as close to the mark as possible.

Sviatoslav attempts to recreate a scene from Romeo and Juliette later on, but it all goes wrong thanks to a combination of his emotional clumsiness and bad luck. But it's these things that only endear him more in Lily's eyes, who can see he is trying his hardest and truly does love her.

This one is going to pluck a heartstring or two when I finally get this done :) I promise you rhat

  • I liked it - it's relatable, which I think many will like and it hit home for me. I will be interested to see how your book develops and turns out.

  • It's very graphic and real and good.

Of my 3 that autistic children, one is non-verbal, and he used to have devastating meltdowns. He could become insane with frustration and go on the rampage headbutting the walls. Once he headbutted a mirror and there was glass in his forehead.

Art imitates life and the story brings to life the reality for a growing number of people
