A school is shut because it might snow tomorrow.
A school is shut because it might snow tomorrow.
I'm not sure how I feel about the "this generation is soft, woke PC rubbish" type stuff on this forum lately. Especially as us autistic people are surely likely to be targeted for that for many reasons.
Better safe than sorry. If we're not equipped to deal with snow in terms of people getting to school/work then that's another problem.
It deffo IS NOT an attempt to spark a conversation about "woke"!
Who wants all those silly arguments??
Stay the course Pegg, you are a valued member here with a skill that actually brings people a little joy.
Some threads attract certain people, and have a certain flavour, other threads do not.
If you can see other peoples differences as THEIR PROBLEM, not yours, it's easier to just shake your head when the annoyng ones pop up in a clump, and leave them to it.
Is not learning and practicing social skills the WHOLE effing AUTISTIC PROBLEM??
Do we not constantly complain about the "intolerance of the normies"??
Why stay you might ask??
I learned a secret on ZH back when it was an unimaginably free place to express yourself.
Even the posters I felt were absolutely, irredeemably, "first up against the wall when the revolution happens" if you viewed their output long enough, eventually posted something that taken in isolation would have made me think, "this is my sort of person".
At the point when I can find something in common with someone who otherwise spews vile garbage, I get a glimpse of why hating on someone because of their views is so silly.
I feel you should at least wait until they come for your children en masse before hating on a group, and wait until they come at you directly, before offering hostility to strangers.
I'd rather they shut the day before than what happened when I was at school and they decided to close due to ice and some heating not working after the earliest school buses had set off. Our driver didn't believe us when we got the message halfway there (fair enough) but we arrived to find the school locked up and his boss then tried to persuade him to leave us unsupervised in an unheated shed/office at the bus depot while he did his other runs. He thankfully ignored her and took us home.
This gives parents time to put plans in place.
This isn't a decision they make lightly. They only close the schools when they really have to, like when there could be a risk to people's safety, and with snow there is such a risk. I personally don't think it's OTT with people's health and safety, it's better to be safe than sorry.
It says that heavy snow is forecast. These decisions aren't taken lightly, and schools have a safeguarding duty.
But I suspect this is just an attempt to spark a conversation about 'woke' and as such will have no interest in reality
I can't be bothered with this place any longer.
This kind of thing I always find silly. I get that we aren't that well placed to handle snow in many parts of this country but the way half the country seems to shut down over the smallest slither of snow is crazy to me. It really shouldn't be putting a halt to so much.
This country just isn't good at coping with snow because there's too many wimps, and not enough fearless warriors like Caelus who are willing and able to go and and sucessfully put themselves at risk of death or dismemberment, just to see if they can do it...
*I've fallen into using provocative language thinking of it as a humorous thing to do again... Doh!
I agree, it is a broad sweeping statement....but it is my impression of reality....whether that be right or wrong.
That's a broad, sweeping statement. This country just isn't good at coping with snow for some reason. In Russia or Finland they would deal with it easily. Part of it might me that we've had over a decade of austerity and cuts in funding to councils from the central government and local councils have to spend a lot of money on things like social care so maybe they don't see dealing with occasional snowy weather as a priority.
Cute underwriters.
One guy told me, on Monday, that the UK only has six underwriters in total.
It does appear to me that our little British "society" now seems to consider itself entitled to an existence completely mitigated of all risk and discomfort, simultaneously hating the state imposed infantilisation, hating the obscene insurance premiums and taxes that come with that, but also expecting (nay, demanding) ever more from "the system" whilst endlessly complaining about it.
It ain't sustainable. It ain't healthy. ......in my opinion.
snows a big deal for me as i go to work on a motorbike.
but i still try and go and skid around, i dont call it off before it even snows lol i have been in work a few times on ice and snow, didnt really like it but i didnt crash. was a bit dangerous at times.
