Does anyone like chess?

As the title says...I personally like chess. I've been learning it since last year and following tutorials online. Anyone else?

  • I like chess in principle, but I detest losing over misreading the board, and I don't know how long it will take to learn to do it consistently. And, actually, I don't know how people plan three moves ahead either. Writing computer software, I can do, and it grows kind of organically in my head. I don't know why chess is different to me. It's analogous to a tree of possibilities for finite state machines. It probably just takes more practice than I'm willing to put in.

  • yeah you kinda have to read all of the opponents possible moves aswell as yours .... then to read ahead you have to then move in a way which opens up your own pieces in a tempting way that you know the opponent will move to take the bait, but then for them to move a certain piece to take your bait it has to be worth it in which by them moving that it opens them up to lose a important piece of their own or checks them. although just reading all possible moves is harder than it sounds and you miss alot of movements and can easily end up moving into a position you take a loss by failing to read a opponents position or moves. also any move you mmake can leave a previously defended piece undefended and then taken without cost for the other side.
