How do you get through your birthday?

My birthday is coming up soon and my family are already preplanning what will happen on the day. They want to take me out shopping and then on the afternoon and evening there will be a party... I'll never understand birthdays. For me the ideal birthday would be spending the day alone in my room where I can be myself and be at peace but every year I'm dragged out and put through a miserable experience lol.

When I was a child I was invited to a girls party and that was also a terrible ordeal. I ended up having a meltdown and my mum had to come and pick me up because I couldn't cope with the noise and the amount of people present at her party. I received some mega bullying after that.

A bit like Xmas I wish I could skip my birthday Slight frown

  • A good question indeed.

I just treat it as a day where I get to possibly relax and have cake.

I usually like being alone, then talk to relatives, open presents, thank people for them and show them what I received e.g. lego then eat cake, and possibly watch a movie together.

You can't ignore birthdays even if you think they are pointless (which I sometimes think about and the true meaning of life and our existence).

I would say enjoy the day, if something goes wrong stay calm (I put my noise cancelling headphones on and listen to music)

  • Glad you've got noise cancelling headphones, I do too, they are well and truly a lifesaver at times. I wear mine whenever things start getting too much and I've always got them in my bag ready and waiting just in case of emergencies.

That sounds a really nice way of spending your birthday. I hope I get Lego this year! I'm a big Lego fan :)

I'm hoping for a quiet day overall but I suspect a party is in the works.
