How do you get through your birthday?

My birthday is coming up soon and my family are already preplanning what will happen on the day. They want to take me out shopping and then on the afternoon and evening there will be a party... I'll never understand birthdays. For me the ideal birthday would be spending the day alone in my room where I can be myself and be at peace but every year I'm dragged out and put through a miserable experience lol.

When I was a child I was invited to a girls party and that was also a terrible ordeal. I ended up having a meltdown and my mum had to come and pick me up because I couldn't cope with the noise and the amount of people present at her party. I received some mega bullying after that.

A bit like Xmas I wish I could skip my birthday Slight frown

  • It's such a drama and it needn't be. I've said before how anxious I get, just the idea of going out makes me stressed but my family have made it clear in the past they don't really believe in my autism.

When I was in my late teens, I'd have been all in favour of a big party/surprise, but less so now.

I've never liked parties. I find them really overwhelming and I'll usually end up with bad fatigue afterwards.
