Steam Trains

I've met many autistic folks on my travels and many of them have quite a keen interest in steam locomotives and the ways of the railway. Don't get me wrong, I've always loves Thomas as a kid and I do love the beauty of the engineering that surrounds this thing.

Does anyone have other reasons to this?

  • I love trains!!! I love going to the fields and watching over the fence as the trains go by, used to do this all the time with my Gran when I was small.

At that point the First Great Western 43 HST was running. I loved the smell of the diesel engine as it went by, when I think of it I can still remember the smell.

I've never seen a proper old steam train unfortunately, that's something I still desperately want to do one day. I love watching trains videos and looking up the facts about them like their engines and specs.

For me trains are extremely interesting and something wonderful to watch.

When I was a kid there were many times I dreamt of being a train driver and if the opportunity somehow arose now I would do it in a heartbeat! Grinning

I also remember watching Thomas! Great show, loved it as a kid and occasionally still watch it now when I'm feeling nostalgic.

  • That's wonderful stuff mate. I'm the same as you, I love steam powered locomotives.

I'm writing a book at present, and one of its features is a steam engine down in the local seaside town. It's a Marklin DRG Class 80 that I've named "Little Owl" and I'm hoping this will appease to all steam lovers upon its release

  • There's something cool about them. I've always loved trains. Your book sounds good, do you think you'll get it published? There needs to be more train books. I buy and read a lot of books and very few features or are about trains.
