Going out today

I'm going out today. So this morning and the last couple of days, I've been preparing for it. I find i need to prepare for everything that I do. I think it's a good idea to prepare though, preparing means I'm ready for almost everything.

So for today I have:

I have my face mask.

Water bottle - just filled it with water now. I've gone out with it empty too many times to mention Rolling eyes whoops...

I've got a brand new packet of tissues.

Snack biscuits in case I have any issues - type 1 Diabetes is not much fun Smirk

Banana for healthy snack.

My journal.

Camera.

Extra clothes because you never know LOL.

Shopping bags.

Hair brush.

And a stress ball. I'll need it LOL.

And last of all my backpack to put all of the above in. Now my family say this is over the top... but let's be honest how can it be?! You can never be too prepared and I'm prepared for quite a lot here.

Just in case...

  • Hi R. There's absolutely nothing wrong with being prepared! What seems strange to a lot of neurotypicals is completely natural to the autistic mind. I'm the same, I prepare myself whenever I can. Before going to school I used to preplan as much as possible. I hope you had a fun time when you went out.

  • I think its great to be prepared. I do the same. It helps me cope knowing i have everything i may need. Over the top? Maybe to them, but its great x

  • I hope you enjoyed your day out and it wasn't too anxiety inducing for you.

I find going out to be very stressful, especially if it's too a busy place, like the shops. I took my great aunt out after Christmas for a meal and it was nice but made me very anxious and triggered my mental health too.

When I go out I like to go for walks. Being in the fresh air in the fields around my house is my favourite thing when I'm out.

Like you, I'll always go prepared with a little survival kit lol in my bag. If it's a new place I'll use Google Maps first to check out the area.

Generally I'm quite the hoarder. I always make sure I'm prepared with spare clothes, spare batteries, spare cups, spare brushes, spare phone charger...

Not being prepared makes me really edgy and stressed.

Being prepared is a good thing IMHO. Star

  • Great to hear that you had a good day. It is kind of you to ask about my day. A bit mixed really. I had a video call with a former colleague in the morning, which was nice. She is very funny, and does not mind me being a bit odd, so I feel that I can be more open with her than 99% of people (I find it hard to trust others!). However, she mentioned it being Friday, which immediately started me panicking that I only have Saturday, Sunday and Monday before it is work on Tuesday. That back-to-school feeling never goes away! *stomach churns* I should not complain though, as I know there are a lot of people in this community who would love to be employed. I just find it quite tiring and stressful, although having said that I find everything tiring and stressful!

  • Thank you! It was a good day, tiring, but good all the same. How was your day? I hope it was also a good day for you too.

I like to plan any trips carefully, with the planning often taking several times longer than the activity, though I think sometimes I use that to avoid doing anything!

I've got confess I think I do actually enjoy planning stuff rather than actually doing it. LOL. A bit like sorting and organising I enjoy it more than using the things I've just organised. I'm weird like that I guess.

Can't deny though Google street view is a Godsend... It's so useful being able to stake out a place before even going there. Some places also put how busy they're going to be on social media, also a big help.

The other positive of your preparation is that you must get a good workout from lugging all of that stuff around!

    LOL. YES!!!

Stuck out tongue I will have some pain killers now to ease my rather painful back and shoulders...

  • Good luck with today's adventure, I hope it is enjoyable. It is a cliche, but there is a lot to be said for the motto of 'fail to prepare, prepare to fail'. I like to plan any trips carefully, with the planning often taking several times longer than the activity, though I think sometimes I use that to avoid doing anything! Big fan of Google Streetview, as that allows me to familiarise myself with places before going. Water, snacks, tissues, money are my essentials - provided that I have the last of these, I can fill in any gaps in my planning. The other positive of your preparation is that you must get a good workout from lugging all of that stuff around!
